10 Ways To Personalise Your Wedding

November 4, 2018 Leave a Comment

What makes a wedding unique? The difference is in the details! Here is a roundup of my top tips for making your celebration truly unique to you from start to the finish. Choose one or two details or incorporate as many ways to personalise your big day as you feel inspired by.

1. INVITES

Your save the date cards or invitations are the first impression your guests will get from the style of wedding they can expect. A classic wedding monogram is a design element that almost any couple can incorporate into their wedding stationery. Couples often use a combination of first initials and monograms can take on a number of shapes and styles. Consider a design that reflects you. This can be used throughout your stationery and decor from menu cards to vinyl decals on your dance floor.

    • Express your unique style, think of your hobbies, passions and favorite colours.
    • If you love mountain climbing consider incorporating that theme into your logo.
    • If you and your partners are from different countries combine the map of your respective countries.
  • If you consider yourself royalty then have a royal style crest created for you.

Think about everywhere you’ll want use use your monogrammed logo as you’ll need to create a design that looks good at different sizes if you are planning multiple uses for it.

2. PROGRAM

The central theme of your big day is you and your spouse to be and many couples lose sight of this amidst all the wedding dress shopping, floral consultations and tackling the seating chart.
So why not weave your love story and how you met into your unique program. Your history is one of a kind and it’s certainly worth telling on your big day.

  • The events of the day can be told in creative way.
  • Pull in fun facts and tidbits about everyone in your wedding party.
  • If you are having a destination wedding add in a brief history of wedding traditions in that country.
  • If you design a monogrammed logo that can be featured on the cover. If the logo has a special meaning or needs explanation that can be included somewhere within your mini magazine.
  • Think of it as an insider’s guide to your story, your wedding party and the timeline of events. Your guests will be able to follow the proceedings of the day and it won’t leave them guessing who is who in your wedding party.

3. THE CEREMONY

Not getting married in a traditional church or synagogue then why not ask one of your family to get their certificate to become ordained as a Wedding Officiant! Choosing somebody that has a good character and is not shy to speak in public is best!

4. BOUQUET

Your wedding is one day that should be totally about you and completely reflective of your personality. If you are the non-traditional type or you just like to create the extra wow factor, then you have the option to carry a non traditional bouquet. It will be the accessory that will be visible in almost every official photo so be sure it reflects your personality.

  • Embellish a satin flower bouquet with brooches, these can be new or vintage, you could even use a family heirloom brooch.
  • Going for a vintage look, have the flowers crocheted.
  • To add extra embellishment add some feathers for a soft and romantic look.
  • Oversized paper flowers are very in style. If your going for a paper flower backdrop, tie the theme in by walking down the aisle holding a large paper flower, soft tissue style paper peonies look darling.
  • Add a family heirloom to your bouquet.

5. DECOR

Choose a color theme for your decor and venue that reflects your personality.
If people know you to be smartly dressed all the time in dark muted colors, the decor will look off if you have a multitude of florals.
Finding the right balance to represent both your personalities is the key. For example if he is working in an industry like metal/cars/ ( search more) then choose industrial style venue or industrial style tables and chairs and reflect her girly side in the flowers.

6. VOWS

  • Writing your own vows is extremely personal and a great way to reflect upon your relationship. If your officiant allows it at your ceremony then go ahead and get the pen and paper and start hitting down some notes. You can choose to write them together or separately.
  • Write about what your relationship means to you and what promises you wish to make to your partner or to each other.
  • There is no need to sound like a Hallmark card just keep it authentic to yourself.
  • Keep it light-hearted with original content and if you can make your partner laugh, even better, as every couple needs a laugh on their wedding day after all the months of stress that went into the planning.

7.  FOOD

Try to incorporate your heritage into your food.

  • Choose a dish from your country or region that people may not have been served at a wedding before. It doesn’t have to be incorporated into the main meal.
  • Tea and scones may be common in Ireland and the UK but not in other countries. Why not get a family member(s) to bake you some scones from their special recipe or ask your caterer to provide them as an after dinner treat.
  • Let guests mingle at cocktail hour with a taco stand serving guacamole.
  • For a street food option choose fish and chips served straight.
  • You don’t need to be from the origin country of the food, it can just be your favorite food or a dessert that you both love getting at your favorite restaurant.

8.  ENTERTAINMENT

  • Have a talent for performing, you can be the entertainment. If you are a singer or musician just sing 1-2 songs, dedicate them to your bride or your mother.
  • If you compose or song write, how about writing a new piece that is truly yours and no one will have heard before, but will leave everyone with a lasting impression.
  • You can also incorporate your heritage into your entertainment. From having a luau to an Irish dance performance to bagpiping… choose one that reflects you or your family’s country of origin.

9. WEDDING CAKE

Show off your style in your cake!

  • Love bling, then why not bling that cake out to make it shine like a diamond. Add fake tiers and cover them in rhinestone and crystal brooches.
  • If your man loves Manchester United let him have an Old Trafford football stadium cake.
  • You can also keep the cake traditional and add your style to the cake stand.
  • If your Mum or Grandma have a recipe you love ask her to make it, then you can go to a confectioner to get it frosted and decorated.

10. COCKTAIL HOUR

Come up with a theme or get a mixologist to create signature cocktails that represents you as a couple. Themed cocktails will make for a real conversation piece, a good laugh and a fun memory for your guests.

  • If you both love Harry Potter then have your drinks named after Harry Potter characters or the Hogwarts Houses.
  • If one or both of you are  Formula 1 Racing fans then rename your Cocktail bar The Pit Stop, incorporate the maneuvers the car makes or the team names into the titles of the cocktails. Have the final chequered flag as a backdrop decor or cover a plain bar stand in a chequered fabric. The team colors can be represented with  little cocktail stick flags.
  • Subsequently if you are a football fan, style the decor of the bar according to your team colors or have it decorated as a goal post with the bar covered in faux grass.
  • If you are a sailing enthusiast, get your bar staff decked out in sailor uniforms and have an oceanic scene as your backdrop.

Remember, personalization works best when it needs little or no explanation, so choose what will be self explanatory and what you feel your guest will really enjoy!
